BLAK DOT END OF YEAR SUMMER SHOW

Blak Dot Gallery is pleased to announce its inaugural end of year summer show, ‘Circular’. 

Blak Dot welcomes entries from all members of the community to bring together the creative spirits from across this land in a celebration of art, culture and inclusion.  Both Indigenous/First Nations and non-Indigenous artists are encouraged to enter. Open to all.

This year’s theme is ‘CIRCULAR’

Works can be of any medium but must be in a circle or spherical shape, no greater than 500 x 500 in diameter, including frames/display apparatus. 

There is a $20 fee to enter or exhibit with cash prizes available for winning participants.

Please note: Works must have been produced within the year of entry.

Artworks exhibited may be sold by Blak Dot Gallery during the exhibition with the 30% of the price to be donated to BLAKADEMY a dedicated critical Indigenous learning space for First Nation Creatives and the remaining value paid to the artist.

IMPORTANT DATES

Exhibition dates: Saturday 7 December – Sunday 22 December 2019

Opening event and Prize announcements: Saturday 7 December 2019, 2 – 4 pm

Application Deadline: Friday 22nd November by 5 pm, 2019

Artwork drop off (in person or by courier): from Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th December 11-5.

Artwork delivered by post:  Artworks must arrive by Wednesday 4th December.

Artwork collection: Artwork must be collected by on Sunday 22 December between 1 – 5 pm unless alternative arrangements have been made in advance with Blak Dot Gallery.  Or if arts work has been sold.

PRIZES

In 2019, there are two cash prizes available to be funded by application fees.  The value of prizes will be split as follows:

  • 1st prize $1500

  • 2nd prize $500

  • Sponsors choice by: DRAWCARD - Artist will have their work on printed postcards in the new year.

Applications must be posted or delivered to the Blak Dot Gallery, Brunswick by 4th December 2019

 

ENTRY

$20 per artwork

One work per artist accepted.

All entries exhibited.

Payment via credit card or cash accepted.

Entry fees are non-refundable.

APPLICATION

  • Applications from all levels of experience welcome, all entries exhibited.

  • Works must be in a circle or spherical shape but can be of any medium.

  • All artwork must measure no greater than 500 x 500 in diameter, including frames/display apparatus. 

  • Ready to hang or install safely when delivered (hanging works must come complete with hanging points, wires or other fixtures. D-rings are our preference).

  • The artwork must be an original work created in 2019.

  • One artwork per entrant. 

  • Accompanied with the work details including artist name, telephone number & artwork title.  

  • Artists are encouraged to provide an artist statement describing the artwork (120 words max) and a brief biography (120 words max) about the artist. Both these elements may be included in the exhibition.

  • It is the artists responsibility to ensure their artwork does not infringe on copyright.

  • Commission on all artwork sales of 30% apply which will be paid to a charity nominated by Blak Dot. This includes GST where applicable.  

  • While all care is taken to ensure safety of artwork, in line with best industry practice, the gallery takes no responsibility for damaged artwork.

  • Artworks deemed too fragile or dangerous to the public will not be included in the exhibition.  Blak Dot Gallery reserves the right not to display works which do not align with its values.

  • The decision of the judges is final.

  • Images of artworks may be reproduced in print and electronic media for publicity purposes and by the gallery for archival purposes.

  • By submitting an artwork to this exhibition, artists agree to the terms outlined in this document.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA


 
Artworks need comply with the parameters of the exhibition, that being:

1.    Circular or spherical in shape

2.    No greater than 500 x 500 in diameter

3.    Created in 2019

4.    An original piece

5.    Be provided ready to hang/display

6.    Align with the values of the Blak Dot Gallery

7.    All artwork should be labelled with the artist name and telephone number.

COMMISSION ON SOLD WORKS

30% commission on artwork sales applies which will be donated to BLAKADEMY a dedicated critical Indigenous learning space for First Nation Creatives, for the purchase for books. (This includes GST where applicable).

DELIVERY OF ARTWORK

You are required to deliver your completed work to the Blak Dot Gallery 33 Saxon St Brunswick in person or by post.

Deadline for artwork drop off (in person or by courier): from Monday 2nd to Wednesday 4th December 11-5.

Deadline for artwork delivered by post:  Artworks must arrive by Wednesday 4th December.

INSURANCE

While we take the utmost care of artwork, following industry best practice, Blak Dot Gallery takes no responsibility for theft, loss or damage of artwork. It is advised that concerned artists purchase their own insurance. 

COLLECTION AND RETURN OF WORKS

Unsold works MUST be collected from Brunswick Street Gallery between 12-4 Sunday 22 December and Monday 23 December 12-5pm 2019.

Under extremely special circumstances, other arrangements need to be made with Blak Dot Gallery, prior to the exhibition closing.

Works not collected by 23 December 2019 may be disposed of.

Packaging will not be stored by the gallery for artists dropping off works in person. Artists are responsible for bringing the appropriate packaging for transport of works upon collection. 

Unsold works can be posted back to artists via courier (no other postage options – do not send works with return postage stamps).  It is the artist's responsibility to contact the gallery prior to the exhibition closing date to request this service and confirm their address. Only clearly labelled packaging, appropriate for re-use, will be stored by Blak Dot Gallery to return via courier works in.

Blak Dot Gallery will obtain a quote for courier deliver back to the artist. Return of works via courier is at the artist's expense. Upon payment of our return invoice, Blak Dot will arrange for a courier to deliver the works back to the artist.
