CELEBRATING: Future River International Women’s Day

Immerse yourself in a poignant and dynamic response to the 'Future River: When the Past Flows' exhibition, thoughtfully curated by Kimba Thompson. This exploration of the Indigenous perspective reveals how cities can obscure the true essence of existence, making it a focal point for a special International Women’s Day celebration during the Brunswick Music Festival.

Join us for a profound encounter with the exhibition through compelling performances. The collaborative event brings together PHOTO 2024, Brunswick Music Festival, Blak Dot Gallery, Counihan Gallery, and Next Wave to create an engaging and immersive experience at the intersection of art, performance, and Indigenous narratives.

The evening kicks off at Counihan Gallery with music by SOVBLKPSSY and a movement performance by MaggZ, creatively responding to the exhibition by artists Julie Gough (Trawlwoolway), Maree Clarke (Yorta Yorta/Wamba Wamba/Mutti Mutti/Boonwurrung), Peta Clancy (Bangerang) and Jody Haines (palawa). The experience later transitions to the Brunswick Mechanics Institute Courtyard for a captivating music performance by artist, activist, and musician Aseel Tayah, honouring the resilience, strength and empowerment of women of Palestine.

Presented by Brunswick Music Festival, PHOTO 2024, Next Wave, Blak Dot Gallery, Counihan Gallery, and Arts Merri-bek.
