Blak Dot is proud to present 'nexus' as part of this years 40th Anniversary of Melbourne Fringe Festival.
nexus is the first solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist wani toaishara. From objects of history to subjects within it, this exhibition explores both a personal and historical image archive as It seeks to problematise notions of neutrality and objectivity through re memory by asserting a Black African Gaze as both critical witness and maker of still and moving image.
wani toaishara is an award-winning art practitioner with a keen interest in African affairs, visual culture and Indigenous knowledge production interrogating the effects of dislocation for those on the margins of movements and dialogues. He is a current Ph.D. candidate at Monash University’s Wominjeka Djeembana’s Research Lab and holds a master’s degree in Arts and Community Practice from Melbourne University’s Victoria College of the Arts. wani has curated, exhibited, and performed his works both nationally and internationally.
